Pop Week Inventor Meme The Roclk.jpg

Happy Bloomin' Friday!

We host the largest and longest running Inventor Pitch/Conference in the industry and have the largest list of professional inventors in the industry - almost 3,500. Some bounce from internal designer to independent throughout their life, but the startling bit (for some) is that about 7% are women. Our Conference last November had about 13% women pro inventors. The new inventor and student tracks are closer to half. I applaud Hasbro for their Women Innovators of Play Conference (see below). The industry looks to leaders like Hasbro and others to level the playing field.

How "I’m The Chef Too!" Moved from Her Kitchen to Kitchens Everywhere!

Lisa Wallace.jpeg
I'm the Chef Too.jpg

When I think back to how I’m The Chef Too! started, it’s hard to believe that it first began as a hobby out of our kitchen when I was eight months pregnant with our third child! I was a classroom teacher for over 10 years and loved my job, it was a creative outlet and passion of mine to take every day concepts from my curriculum and bring them to life through hands on exploration for my students. Once my husband and I started our own family, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom and raise our kids while he worked in the medical field. At that time, our oldest child was diagnosed with an auto immune disease, ADHD and on the spectrum. He had a difficult time learning at school, so I spent a lot of time with him in the kitchen and decided to combine my love of baking and cooking with my passion of teaching and infuse the two together to create interactive educational recipes for him.

Before I knew it, our relationship started to flourish, and we were connecting in the kitchen like never before. I began to use his favorite topics he loved reading about and re-create them for him from some of my recipes. Before we knew it we were traveling to outer space together and baking galaxy donuts, discovering the layers of earth and chemical reactions as we erupted edible volcano cakes, and even uncovered the properties and characteristics of rocks and gems as we whipped up our own cupcake geodes! Each recipe I created for him was not only FUN but educational! The once dry curriculum that I was teaching to my students in my classroom was now being taught through the vessel of cooking to my child. I started to post our creations on social media, and we soon had a following. READ MORE...

Toy Industry Rebels Build an Invention Studio from Zero to One

Laurie Peterson.png
Rebel Play.png

In a bold move to shake up the toy and game industry, Rebel Play has emerged as a new invention studio that promises to break free from the ordinary. Their mission? To challenge industry norms, defy the predictable, and deliver toys and games that spark imagination.

At the heart of Rebel Play’s brand is their enigmatic red blobbish mascot, Rebel. This ghostly figure encapsulates the creative spirit within each of us—a symbol of unbridled imagination.

Meet "Rebel" the creative spirit mascot for Rebel Play Studio.

“In it’s purest form, imaginative play is an act of rebellion,” declares Laurie Peterson, one of two founders of Rebel Play and toy industry veteran and former TAGIE Rising Star Toy Inventor of the Year. “You are conjuring up ideas that are not present to the senses. We aim to embody rebellious imagination with our new studio Rebel Play. The trick is finding a balance between delivering the unexpected and being on brand for our toy industry partners.”

Laurie Peterson established herself as an innovator and entrepreneur by creating a line of magnetic dollhouses called Build & Imagine. These award-winning construction sets paired building with imaginative play to encourage girls to develop early STEM skills. They were picked up by major retailers including Barnes & Noble, Target, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids, QVC, and Amazon before being acquired by a top tier toy company.

Studios’ Offer to Writers May Lead to AI-Created Scripts That Are Copyrightable. Copyright law doesn't recognize works solely created by artificial intelligence. Jewelry Based on Childhood Toys. It's Got Diamonds. But Is It Fun? Some fine jewelry makers find inspiration in the toys of their childhood. Fred Held, passed away August 30. More details to follow.

Paul Reubens, the actor best known for portraying Pee-wee Herman, died Sunday night after a private bout of cancer. He was 70.

“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years,” wrote Reubens in a statement posted to Instagram after his death. “I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”

“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,” wrote Reubens’ estate in the caption. “Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”

Reubens began his career in the 1970s after joining the Los Angeles live comedy troupe the Groundlings as an improvisational comedian and stage actor. In 1980, he launched “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” a stage production centered on a fictional character he had been developing for years. As Pee-wee became a beloved comic figure, Reubens’ show ran for five sold-out months, and he landed a special at HBO. Reubens also committed to the character in his interviews and public appearances.

In 1985, he teamed with Tim Burton on “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” the character’s feature film debut, which was a critical and commercial success. Reubens returned three years later for a follow-up film, “Big Top Pee-wee,” helmed by Randal Kleiser.

Klash will be sorely missed by all those who knew her. She was a very generous, considerate and kind lady. She leaves behind her partner Kevin, three children and three grandchildren, with another grandson on the way.”

HTI’s owner, John Hutt, commented: “Klash will be missed greatly and remembered dearly.”
